How to Overcome Fear of Flying

Many people, regardless of age, gender, or social status, suffer from a fear of flying (aviophobia).  This is understandable, particularly since the September 11th tragedy and the more recent air tragedies.  The anxiety that is experienced due to flying may be a combination of other phobias, such as fear of heights (acrophobia), fear of closed in spaces (claustrophobia) along with some of these other common fears:  fear of what might happen, loss of control, terrorism, fear of technology/mechanical failure and/or fear of pilot error.

Although statistically flying is safer than driving, it is not very reassuring for someone who suffers from fear of flying.  Cognitive therapy is a good way to learn to separate the reasons for your fears from reality and to re-evaluate your thinking patterns and behavior.

Hypnotherapy is very effective in learning adaptive automatic reactions through the use of imagined exposure of flying while relaxed through hypnotherapy.   Through these techniques Dr. Rebeck can probably alleviate or even cure your fear of flying.  Many people experience a pleasant surprise after treatment with hypnotherapy, removing the fear and dread of the return flight after vacation and find that they enjoy their entire vacation.
